Negotiations failed

Joint press release of BFFS, GDBA and VdO

German Stage Association rejects inflation compensation for guest artists

Berlin/Hamburg, 22.06.2023 - On June 5, the artists' unions BFFS, GDBA and VdO agreed with the German Stage Association on the payment to compensate for inflation for ensemble members employed in the TVöD sector in accordance with NV Bühne. They will now receive a total of € 3,000 tax- and social security-free until February 2024. An important and necessary step!

Just as important, however, is a quick agreement on inflation compensation for guest artists. The unions negotiated this today with the German Stage Association, which categorically rejected it.

The theater landscape would be inconceivable without guest artists. Their often precarious social situation has long been one of the biggest construction sites in the German labor market, and the number of those affected has increased many times over in recent years. The financial, organizational and social costs for artists, who are always "on the road" in Germany's cultural landscape, place a heavy burden on them, which has been drastically exacerbated by inflation.

Artists without permanent contracts have already been hit particularly hard by the pandemic. Now they are again to be left out of the equation, even though comparable employees in the public sector benefit fully from the regulations on inflation compensation.

We therefore continue to urge the German Stage Association to agree in the short term on an appropriate inflation compensation for the year 2023, also for guest artists.
